Peggy Halyard congratulating Presenter Gwen Brehm |
Gwen Brehm, M.Ed., LPC, LMFT, presented Making Dialectical Behavior Therapy Work
|
A note from Peggy Halyard, Houston Marriage Counselor
to Houston Marriage Counselors and other Mental Health Care Professionals:
Thank you for providing couples with marriage and individual counseling and therapy before and after they attend a couples weekend workshop.
My ethical policy is to always return clients to their therapists after they have attended a "Getting the Love You Want" workshop. My belief is that the skills learned in the workshop provide the couple with a deeper insight and understanding of their issues. We always recommend that couples continue their relationship with their therapist.
When your couples return, feedback has shown that your work will be easier and more rewarding. I encourage couples to take their workbooks from the workshop and return to their respective therapist for deeper work.
Regarding my private practice, when I see clients that I feel are outside my realm of expertise, I refer these clients to other mental health professionals who can better help them. I maintain a collaborative relationship with a network of mental health professionals who I consult with and refer to if I feel a client’s issues are outside my area of expertise.
